Shiraz is the fifth most populous city of Iran and the capital of Fars province which is located in the southwestern Iran in the Zagros Mountains. It is famous as the heartland of Persian culture, where was the capital of Iran during the Zand dynasty's era (1747-79).
Shiraz is also known as the city of poets_ because of great Hafiz and Saadi, literature, gardens and flowers. Its major tourism attractions are splendid gardens and mosques which are incredibly fantastic, and they're mainly gathered in the old part of the city; within walking distance of most hotels. The massive ruins of the Persian Empire's grand palace Persepolis, about 2500 years old, are about 60 km northeast.
The handicrafts of Shiraz consist of Qashqai carpets and gabe, carpet weaving, leather, wooden works, clay works, brocade weaving, khatam (inlaid work), engraving on metal, silver work, ceramic and tiles.
As the commercial center of the surrounding region by producing grapes, citrus fruit and wheat, Shiraz play an important role in the Southern part of the country.
Shiraz is surrounded by mountains in all directions and has got a moderate climate and has got a seasonal river crossing the city. Its climate is extremely agreeable and generally temperate because of the city’s altitude. During spring (March 21- June 21) the city becomes a field of flowers and greenery, heady with scent of orange blossoms.
