The population are mainly Shiia Muslims but Sunni minority do exist, and the language they speak is Minaabi (locally Minow), a dialect which is something between Bandari, Baloochi and Persian. Once a week, a well-known bazaar called "Panjshambe bazaar" or in Minaabi language "Peyshambe Bazaar" (English: Thursday's Bazaar) attracts people from all over Hormozgan, and beyond. In ancient times Minaab had the name of Harmosia (or Harmozeia). The cultural mix of the Minaab market is unique – even to my well-traveled eyes. Faces reflect the location, on an ancient route linking Arabia with Iran, Pakistan and beyond.
