Hamadan province is situated in a mountainous area in western Iran with very cold and long winters. While it's cool, pleasant and delightful summer's climate attract tourists escaping from the intense heat elsewhere. Early spring and late autumn are the rainy seasons for the region.

One of the most famous natural attractions in Iran, the Ali Sadr Cave, is situated approximately 100 km north of Hamadan City. The cave is in fact a sealed underground lake of crystal clear water.

The most important handicraft of Hamadan is earthenware and ceramics. A small place called Lalejin 30 km north of Hamadan is famous in this field. More than that, carpet and Kilim weaving and leather works are famous in this region.

Hamadan is also a trade center for a fertile farm region where fruit and grain are grown, and a center for trading with carpets.
