The city is the capital of the largest province of Iran by the same name. It is located on a high margin of Kavir-E Lut in the central south of Iran. Kerman has a long history and strong cultural heritage, where you can visit historic mosques and Zoroastrian fire temples. Surrounded by dramatic desert and mountain scenery, Kerman offers many notable sights.
Dating back to the Sassanian Empire of the third century AD, Kerman is best known today for its world-famous, elaborately designed carpets; including kilims and jajims, which are hand-woven in hundreds of small workshops dotted around the city.
Kerman is the city of cumin, carpet, copper, coal and caravansary. Driving to Kerman from Yazd, you see a lot of pistachio gardens stretched across the desert for tens of kilometers.
